Disaster Management Exercise (DMX 3.0)

The Department of Disaster Management and Resilience (DMR) and the BUP Disaster Management Forum (BUPDMF) jointly organized the Disaster Management Exercise 3.0 (DMX 3.0), which was conducted on the 15th and 16th of October 2023. The event was thoughtfully themed 'Flood Management in Bangladesh.' Over the course of this two-day program, a total of 12 teams representing various universities engaged in the Tabletop Exercise (TTX), while five teams from the Bangladesh University of Professionals showcased their expertise through Poster Presentations. The 'Team Resilience' from Jahangirnagar University emerged as the victors, with the first and second runners-up positions being secured by 'Team Safety Sentinels' and 'Team H2O,' both representing the Bangladesh University of Professionals. In the poster presentations, the desired title was claimed by 'Team Unpredictable' from the Bangladesh University of Professionals. 
Inspired by the Disaster Response Exercise and Exchange (DREE), the Disaster Management Exercise (DMX) serves as a platform where students, through the resolution of case scenarios and Tabletop Exercises, impart their knowledge before a distinguished audience of experts and policymakers. On this occasion, the panelists included personalities such as Prof. Dr. Mahbuba Nasrin, ProVC of the Open University of Bangladesh; Brigadier General Husain Muhammad Masihur Rahman, SGP, SPP, ndc, afwc, psc, Director General of AFD, Bangladesh; Mr. Atiqul Huq, Former DG of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief; Dr. Mohammed Moniruzzaman Khan, Associate Professor at IDMVS, DU; and Ms. Apurba Swatee Mahboob, a distinguished Capacity Building and Policy Advocacy Analyst from the Bangladesh Country Office of the United Nations Development Programme. Additionally, Dr. Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, ProVC of the Bangladesh University of Professionals, graced the event as the esteemed chief guest on the first day, and Brigadier General Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, ndc, psc, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, presided over the second day. The event concluded on a successful note, with students, experts, and policymakers collaboratively working towards enhancing flood management and safety measures in Bangladesh. It demonstrated the potential of collaboration and creative ideas aimed at empowering the country to effectively respond to and mitigate the challenges posed by floods.
